Meet Funsho Adeolu English and Yoruba actor and things you never knew about him
Funsho Adeolu is an award-winning Nigerian English and Yoruba movie actor, director, producer, events effects provider, MC, and live band singer. In this interview with IKALE VOICE NEWSPAPER’ Oyesanmi Joseph James speaks on how God saved him, growing up, family and politics. Excerpt:
May we meet you sir?
My name is Funsho Adeolu Adegeye, an actor, producer, director and also into events effects. I believe in humility in life
What was it like growing up?
My growing up was very eventful and interesting because my parents were never married so I was always getting fatherly and motherly care separately but got it fully. It was an interesting growth that would have thrown me into waywardness but God helped me
Several People believed that Nigeria’s top rated actor, Funsho Adeolu is from Lagos, some say he is from Ondo State, can you please set the record straight?
Laughs. I am from Ayoka in Okitipupa Local Government of Ondo State.
When did you start your journey in movie industry and how?
I started in 1987 as a dance troupe in Festac. It was Antar Laniyan that trained us. I was a stage actor for a long time before I went on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Television and later started film making and here I am today
You have featured in both Nollywood and the Yoruba set, any plans to go into Hollywood?
Everybody actors inclusive are praying for upliftment so my work and God will take me there
What were your challenges when you started your movie career and how did you overcome them?
My main challenge was my family who thought I was wasting time trying to be an actor when money was not coming but I had a vision I believed so much in and so went on
Who are your role models in the industry?
Antar Laniyan who is my boss, Tunji Bamishigbin and Richard Mofe Damijo
Can you mention one particular event or issue about your parents that you cannot forget?
On my wedding day a drama ensued when my daddy was called and his legal wife followed him and sat where my mother was meant to sit. We had to tell her to stand up so my mother could sit. It was a lesson that I must not allow to happen to me
How is madam sir? Laughs.
My wife is doing real good and ever loving. She is caring to me and my children
What is her name and is she also in the industry?
Her name is Victoria Adegeye and no she is not in the industry
For youths out there, what would you share with them?
I want to encourage youths out there to take a step at a time and know that everyone must have a story before glory. No pain, no gain
And your fans?
They should keep praying for me and keep advising if any fault
Which of the Ikale meals can you prepare since Ikale men are also known to be good cooks?
I can’t prepare any ooo. Laughs.
What is your take on Covid – 19?
All I will say about this pandemic is that people should just adhere strictly to Government’s directives and stay at home so that we can go back to our normal lives. They should also pray that this time should pass
Your words for politicians in Africa?
Politics is meant to be a dirty game as far as the world is concerned but anyone that wants to go into it should go with the fear of God, care and love for humanity
