A meeting of major stakeholders of Irele Community as conveyed by the former Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Kayode Naiyeju came up on Friday at Ode Irele.
The meeting tagged “Peace Talk” was attended by the New Caretaker Chairman Irele LG, Hon Joshua Babarere, Former Chairman of the Council, Olowojuni Shadrach, Representatives of the DPO,Deputy Chairman of Ijamas (the High Chiefs) the Gbogunron of Irele kingdom, High Chief Oloruntusin Mesagan with other Chiefs including the Luhare of Irele Kingdom, Chief Oluwole Akinbo, Heads of Orunbemekun, Jagboju ruling Houses, Principal officers of NURTW and others.
The recent celebration of Ore festival in the town that ended with termination of life of a driver, one Arise Idowu by some thugs and absence of an Oba in the ancient town were parts of real issues of discussion at the meeting.
In his opening remarks Dr Naiyeju condemned the barbaric ways of life that some youths of the town displayed during the festival.
He said Ore festival ought to be a celebration of our culture but the so call thugs are taking the beauty away from the community.
While calling on the Security men to bring the perpetrators to book, the Shepherd enjoined Irele Community to join hands with the police in their investigations.
On the vacuum created in the community by the demise of Oba Olarewaju Lebi the Olofun of Irele over two years ago, Naiyeju appealed to the Ondo State Government to urgently begin the process of appointing a new Oba for the town.
One of the attendees, Omomuwagha of Irele called for his recognition as the Regent of the town till when a new Oba is emerged.
The meeting was of the opinion of demanding for an Oba than appointing a new Regent for now.
In his contribution, the Luhare of Irele Chief Oluwole Akinbo called on the police to do more in curbing the excess of the so called thugs in the town.
Chief Akinbo who shared his bitter experience during the festival said that if necessary steps are not put in place to address the mess, many of sons and daughters of the community in faraway places may not show interest of coming home to attend the festival.
