Rural and Feeder Roads make crucial contributions to economic development and growth, bringing important social benefits. Developing it for the good of humanity remains an overarching priority of my administration.
The Executive Chairman, Irele Local Government, Hon. (Barr.) Ajimotokin Olusegun Philip made this disclosure while assessing the condition of Feeder roads in Ode Irele Community on Thursday.
The Hon. Chairman was with his Vice, Hon. Jide Akinfe and some Senior civil Servants led by the community, information and environmental departments to identify those quarters, streets that are not motorable as a result of the effects of flooding.
All these environmental challenges will be presented before the government for prompt actions especially as the 2021 budget is being prepared.
The stress people are passing through on daily basis as a result of poor rural and feeder roads is regrettable and that is why it is imperative for our government to take immediate actions so as to alleviate the challenges the people face as a result of poor condition of roads.
Some of the quarters/streets that were visited in Ode Irele by the Chairman and his team include:
Opetusin Street-2: A Bigger Culvert with drainage is needed in this street because the current one is too narrow compared to the volumes of water that’s passing through it which results to serious flooding that’s disturbing the quarter.
Opetusin Street-1: Drainage with Filling and Grading will prevent the serious flooding that’s causing anxiety to the people living in this area most especially during raining season.
Opetusin Street-3: The Culvert needed to be expanded for free flow of water.
Arogwa: Drainage, Filling and Grading will address the erosion in this quarter.
Lurogho: Drainage, Filling and Grading will address flooding disturbing the people in this quarter.
Lemadoro: Drainage, Filling and Grading will address flooding in this quarter.
Liseri: Broad Culvert, good Drainage system with Grading will address the environmental challenge in this quarter.
Ogunlana Street: Big Culvert with good Drainage system and grading is needed in this Street.
Idogun Street: Filling and Grading of this Street will allay the anxiety of the people in the next raining season.
Lumeko: Good drainage system, Filling and Grading of this Street will curb the few of the people in the next raining season.
Lemikan Street: Special intervention ( Culvert, drainage, grading e.t.c) will prevent the serious flooding disturbing the people.
Legunmare: Grading will help redefine the condition of the road.
Obolo Street: Filling and Grading will address the condition of the road and link other street to it.
Omololu Street Opposite Mega Street: Filling and Grading is imperative to allay the fear of the people in this quarter.
Jolaolu Street-3 Off Omololu Street: Urgent Filling and Grading is needed urgently.
Kajola Street1 Opposite Mega School: Good Drainage system, Filling and Grading will address the residents challenges.
Kajola Street2 Opposite Mega School: Good Drainage System with Grading is needed in this Street.
Oke Oluwa Street Off Omi Road: Serious Gully needed to be urgently fixed.
Gbogunron-1/ Yasere Street: Good Drainage System with Filling and Grading can address the environmental challenge of the people.
Orunbemekun Street: Filling and Grading will ease the stress people are passing through on daily basis as a result of poor roads.
Gbogunron-2/ Late Doyin Omololu Crescent: Serious Gully, Good Drainage System, Filling and Grading. Special intervention from government is urgently needed in this quarter to prevent the high volumes of erosion disturbing the residents, among many others.
We appeal to sand miners excavating sand from our feeder roads for commercial purpose to desist from this dastardly act as government would not hesitate to unleash necessary punishments to the perpetrators.
This unpatriotic act has worsened the conditions of our feeder roads as it allows erosion to penetrate where the sand initially covers thereby causing portholes.
Properly maintained roads enhances poverty reduction by improving access between regional and rural communities and, ultimately enhancing socio-economic growth and development.
Adopting maintenance culture on public properties including roads is key. We hereby implore you all to maintain government property like your own. This is one of the fundamental ways of consolidating our efforts for sustainable growth and development.
The Community familiarization tour, which will cut across all towns and villages in Irele Local Government continues on Monday.
