On Wednesday, Nigerian-born New Zealander UFC middleweight fighter Israel Adesanya arrived in Lagos State. Adesanya, who was accompanied by his Nigerian parents, received a warm welcome at the Murtala Muhammed Airport. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) shared videos and photos of his arrival, highlighting the enthusiastic reception.
This visit comes after Adesanya’s loss to South Africa’s Dricus Du Plessis by submission in the fourth round at UFC 305 in Perth on August 17, 2024. This defeat follows Adesanya’s previous loss of the UFC Middleweight title to Sean Strickland in 2023. Adesanya, who had a remarkable 20-fight winning streak from 2012 to 2020, has now faced four losses between 2021 and 2024.
