Jibrin Barau, the Deputy President of the Senate, has stated that the red cap, symbolizing the Kwankwasiyya Movement, will soon fade from Kano State. This movement represents the loyalists of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of the state and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
While receiving politicians who recently defected from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jibrin predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC candidates would secure victories in the 2027 presidential, governorship, national, and state House of Assembly elections in Kano.
Jibrin emphasized the growing popularity of the APC in the state, despite its opposition status, citing the influx of NNPP members and leaders into the APC as evidence. He remarked, “Politics is a game of numbers. If you have a political party and members of other parties are not joining you, it means there is a problem.”
He attributed the attraction of NNPP members to the APC to various interventions by the Tinubu administration across critical sectors in the state and the country. Jibrin expressed confidence in continuing to welcome NNPP members, asserting, “Time will come. You will be looking for someone with a red cap, the symbol of the Kwankwasiyya, and you won’t see any in Kano.”
He concluded by stating that these efforts aim to establish a solid foundation for the APC and ensure electoral success in the upcoming elections.
