
In Arigidi Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, a suspected motorcycle snatching incident resulted in the death of Okada rider Yakubu on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Yakubu’s body was discovered along the Arigidi Akoko/Okeagbe road, with his throat slit and motorcycle missing.
This incident marks the fourth killing of a commercial motorcyclist in the community within the past month. Previously, three other Okada riders were also killed by suspected snatchers.
In response to the escalating violence, women from the Akoko community have protested, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators. Community leaders from Ogbagi Akoko had earlier convened a meeting to address the serial killings and called for the establishment of a special task force to enhance security.
The Akoko Security and Economic Development Council has emphasized the need for community-based security measures to address the crisis. Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okeagbe, alongside Civil Defence and Amotekun Corps members, have initiated efforts to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
