A development advocate and aspirant for the 2027 Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency election, Dr. Olumuyiwa Daramola, has called for deliberate, policy-driven legislative leadership to unlock the vast economic potential of the Ikale Ethnic Nation, politically recognised as the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency.
Speaking on the prospects of the area on his verified official Facebook handle, Daramola described Ikale as occupying “a strategic place in Nigeria’s economic imagination, shaped by history, resources and an enduring spirit of enterprise.”
He stressed that the constituency’s development challenges are rooted not in a lack of opportunities but in governance gaps.
“Ikale’s challenge has never been the absence of opportunity; it has been the absence of sustained, policy-driven governance capable of translating potential into prosperity,” he said.
Daramola recalled a period when Ikale featured prominently in Nigeria’s industrial and global economic space, citing the Oluwa Glass Company and the Okitipupa Oil Palm Corporation as symbols of industrial ambition and agro-industrial vision. He noted that these enterprises once provided jobs, skills, and confidence in local industry, but their decline has left the region largely dependent on primary agricultural production.
“Today, Ikale’s abundant agricultural endowment – cassava, oil palm and other produce remain largely confined to primary production. This is not a verdict of fate. It is a policy gap that can be closed with the right legislative instruments,” Daramola added.
He emphasised that modern development is fundamentally legislative, requiring lawmakers who understand global best practices such as value-chain legislation, investment incentives, industrial clustering, and public–private partnerships.
“Such legislative depth is essential to convert natural endowment into productive policies that create jobs, stimulate industry and restore economic dignity,” he stated.
Daramola further clarified that his call was not political rhetoric but a deliberate blueprint for growth. “This vision is not political theatrics. It is a premeditated blueprint grounded in institutional reform, strategic partnerships and policy coherence,” he said.
Expressing optimism about the constituency’s future, Daramola concluded that “with legislative depth, clarity of purpose and collective resolve, Ikale’s economic promise can move from memory to momentum.”
