FG Revalidates Ondo Deep Sea Port Project; Inclusion of Federal Road Opens Up Ondo State – Aiyedatiwa
The Federal Government’s revalidation of the Ondo Deep Sea Port project has been described as a major economic breakthrough for Ikale land and the entire Ondo South Senatorial District, with expectations of accelerated development along the state’s coastal corridor.
Ondo State Governor, HE Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa confirmed the development, noting that the renewed federal backing has restored confidence in the project, which is expected to transform Ondo State into a key maritime and commercial hub in the South-West.
The governor explained that the deep sea port, when fully operational, will open the coastal axis—particularly Ondo southern district—to global trade, industrial investment and job creation, while strengthening the state’s participation in the blue economy.
In a related development, the governor acknowledged the role of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, in facilitating the inclusion of an approved federal road to the Ondo South Senatorial District. According to him, the road project is strategically linked to the deep sea port initiative and will significantly improve access to the coastal region.
The inclusion of the federal road, long demanded by residents, is seen as a historic achievement. For over three decades, communities in Ondo South have prayed and agitated for improved federal road infrastructure to open up the district for economic growth and social development.
Stakeholders note that the road will enhance connectivity, ease the movement of goods and people, and support the successful take-off of the deep sea port, while stimulating commerce across Ikale land and neighbouring areas.
Governor Aiyedatiwa assured that his administration will ensure that host communities are fully integrated into the implementation process, stressing that the benefits of the projects must translate into real improvements in the lives of the people.
Community leaders and residents across Ondo South have welcomed both developments, describing them as long-awaited answers to years of advocacy and hope. With the revalidation of the deep sea port and the approval of the federal road, expectations are high that the district is finally on the path to sustained economic transformation.
