Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has voiced his disappointment with the current state of global and Nigerian leadership, describing it as ineffective and lacking direction. In an exclusive interview with Kayode Akintemi on News Central Television, he emphasized the concept of a “leadership deficit” affecting the world, particularly Africa and Nigeria.
Obasanjo criticized the Nigerian president for assuming office without a clear strategy, pointing to the president’s vague “three-point plan” as an example of unpreparedness. He stated, “What do you say of a Nigerian President who came to office without a plan? You just come and open your mouth and make a pronouncement on something that hasn’t been studied.”
Reflecting on his own time as military Head of State, Obasanjo highlighted his administration’s commitment to supporting the fight against colonialism and apartheid in Southern Africa. He noted that Nigeria was recognized as a leader among the frontline states, despite being geographically distant.
