Sixteen people were burnt to death in a severe motor accident on the Ore-Ondo highway in Ondo State on Monday night. The collision occurred at Ajue community between a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck.
According to reports, the accident resulted in 16 fatalities, with the victims being burnt beyond recognition. Three others sustained serious injuries, and two individuals escaped unhurt. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by a head-on collision due to alleged over-speeding and wrongful overtaking.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ibitoye Samuel, confirmed that the accident took place at 8pm, and the rescue operation concluded at 11pm. Investigations into the precise causes of the accident are ongoing. The FRSC Commander has urged motorists to drive cautiously, emphasizing the importance of defensive driving and avoiding excessive speeds, which are major contributors to road accidents in Nigeria.
