So, what does Dr. Olumuyiwa Daramola mean by self-reliance?
He means an act of being financially and economically independent by harnessing one’s talents and skills to earn income. It is the act of utilizing skills and talents profitably to make progress.
He opines that a self-reliant individual won’t be a burden to the government; rather, a problem solver.
Dr. Olumuyiwa Daramola mentions four attributes of self-reliance:
1. Use of Initiative: Self-reliance involves the ability to think of what an individual can do for himself to be financially independent.
2. Use of Talents and Skills: It entails using what you have to get what you need. You must know what your talents and skills are and think of how they can be profitably maximized.
3. Diligence: It requires and involves diligence. It takes hard work to be financially independent because you can only what you work for.
4. Endurance and Perseverance: A self-reliant individual must be ready to ensure hardship for a while. Things may not be rosy initially but with time, if he perseveres situations will change for better.
Undoubtedly, the coming of Dr. Olumuyiwa Daramola to represent the good people of Irele and Okitipupa Federal Constituency at the National Assembly will make the constituency viable and an envy to neighboring constituencies.
