Seyi Makinde: South-West Voters Will Reject APC in 2027

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed strong confidence that voters in the South-West will turn away from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a campaign event in Ondo State on October 24, 2024, Makinde suggested that the people made a significant error in supporting the APC during the 2023 elections, a choice he believes they will not repeat due to the hardships resulting from the party’s policies.

As the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West, Makinde remarked that many Yoruba voters who backed President Bola Tinubu and the APC have become disillusioned with their decision amid ongoing economic challenges. He stated, “The people of the South-West of Nigeria are wiser,” emphasizing that these hardships have prompted voters to reconsider their political affiliations.

Focusing specifically on Ondo State, he predicted that voters would demonstrate strong support for the PDP in the upcoming governorship election on November 16, 2024. “On November 16, they will tell him (Ganduje) that Ondo State and indeed the South-West is for the PDP,” he asserted.

Makinde’s comments came in response to remarks from APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, who expressed confidence that the South-West would continue to back the APC in 2027. Dismissing Ganduje’s optimism, Makinde stated, “Talk, they say, is cheap. You can say whatever you like with your mouth, but the people of Ondo State will speak loud and clear on November 16, 2024, and then all of us in this country will hear it loud and clear.”
