Better Nigeria USA Condemns Owo Killings, Charges Govt. Security Agents to bring culprits to justice
A Chieftain of Better Nigeria USA, a Non Governmental Organization, Hon. Mike Okaka has expressed shock at the brutal killing of helpless Nigerians at a Catholic Church in Owo, today saying it was not only wicked but callous.
In a statement made public, Hon. Okaka condemned in strong terms the inhumane acts just as he called on the government and security agents to do all in their power to bring the culprits to justice.
While commiserating with the families of the victims, the Catholic community, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the good people of Ondo State, Hon. Okaka said the horrendous news coming out of Owo, must be condemned in its entirety by all peace loving Nigerians.
He also used the opportunity to pray for those who lost their lives, praying God to grant speedy recovery to those still battling for their lives.
Earlier, the Assistant Secretary, Better Nigeria USA, Sir Jude Ukpebor KSC said what happened yesterday against the innocent Nigerians who woke up in the morning, dressed beautifully to celebrate Pentecost Sunday in the church, St. Francis Catholic Church Owo was barbaric, disheartening, satanic and evil.
Sir Jude said, “We the Nigerians in diaspora under the umbrella of Better Nigeria USA incorporated wants to show our condolences to the families whose love ones were massacred. We want to join the peaceful people of Owo to mourn for the dead, we want to show our condolences to the families, parishioners of St. Francis and the diocese of Ondo for this terrible disaster that happened.”
Sir Jude stressed that while the government and other international societies are trying to find out culprits of this evil, Better Nigeria Organisation want to express her opinions.
“We understand that the State governments in Nigeria have been doing well to provide adequate security for their states. The last Christmas and New year celebration was peaceful and many Nigerians came home to celebrate with their families in a very secured environment. I joined those Nigerians to praise the efforts of the state government because I think that they are doing their best. From the information I gathered from the people in Ondo state during my recent visits and my own experience when I travelled by road to Akure, I was impressed by the level of security post at almost every yard up to a point that I was almost angry for the several delays at each checkpoint. After the incident that happened yesterday, I spoke to some individuals in Ondo state to get their opinion about the massacre.”
“From their statement, we the Nigerians in diaspora think that Nigerians should do proper investigation to determine the root cause instead of making quick conclusions because it was perpetrated in the church. The reason is this, Politicians have raised up many monsters around us. If they can’t get the power they put guns in the hands of the unemployed arrogant youths to perpetuate harm under the cover of religion. The people of Owo are Christians, Muslims and Traditional worshipers who have lived in harmony for decades; why now that it’s time for election in Nigeria this is happening.”
The organization laments that Nigeria has become so crippled that the citizens have become hopeless about the future of the country quoting Chinue Achebe of things fall apart, ‘’it’s only a foolish man that goes to sleep when his house is on fire.’’
Also, Director Humanitarian and Health Services, Better Nigeria USA, Dr. Fatima Lawson said, “Enough of these senseless killings of innocent citizens! Nigerians are tired of these killings perpetrated by “unknown gunmen.” Where is our humanity? Who holds these murderers accountable? Enough is enough!”
